uses and gratification theory

An active audience makes choices
P- personal identity
  • media products allows audiences to find a role models and other people with similar interests
  • the use of media to reinforce personal values by coming closer to similar and desired people/products
I- information
  • any information can be learned through different forms of media
  • Media allows the audiences to gain an insight into other peoples lives
  • people can acquire information, knowledge and understand through media products.
E- entertainment
  • use of media to escape the humdrum of their boring everyday lives
S- social interaction
  • The ability of media products to produce a topic of conversation between other people
  • media producers allows the audience t break down barriers of time/ distance to communication to others

The theory of uses and gratification identifies entertainment to the audience because it allows people to move from the boring real world to a fun experience. We see this through  gaming as people are able to be whatever they like. An example of this could be Fortnite. This shows the theory of entertainment of U&G applies to gaming because it allows people to have fun and enjoy themselves.

  • film posters-information, entertainment
  • film trailers-information, entertainment
  • website- information, social interaction
  • merchandise- personal identity

The theory of uses and gratifications identify entertainment as appeal to the audience because it has a lot of action and variety of interesting scenes. We can see this in no time to die through the use  of guns and the way the car was modified to have guns inside the headlights. This shows the theory of u&g  applies to no time to die trailer because it links of how this trailer may be entertaining to its audience.

The theory of uses and gratification identifies personal identity through the use of its audience as there are a variety of different characters and their personalities. Some people may find they relate to a certain character meaning they might follow the film to see what happens to this character. This shows the the theory of U&G to the no time to die trailer because this represents many of the characters which will be featured in this film.
